In Artbreeder you work with images. For each image you can
- Create new images of all categories
- Creating new images from a base image: Do that by editing any existing images on Compose, Crossbreed, Edit Genes or pick Children
- Create completely random images: By using Compose you don't need to start from an existing picture: just don't select any picture and click on the "reload temporary images" icon
- Create image manipulation genes: Paid users are allowed to Create Genes for all categories. then press the "alt" button followed shortly (while holding the alt button) by f4.
- Download Images: All images are available for download in low resolution. Free accounts also get 8 High Resolution downloads and some free Uploads. Paid Accounts let you download more High-Resolution copies of images, upload more files, make "private mode" active or inactive (where all new images are private) and even let you create your own "genes" for the maximum tier. Genes are things you can add to your oc without choosing another image with that feature
- Reconstruct known images
- Reconstructing a known face: You start by uploading an image close to the face you want, then fine tuning the artbreeder portrait. I summarized the steps for reconstructing a face. In my case I wanted to visualize an Irish mummy, se how it looked when the man was alive. The same process can be used to see how an anime character would look, or to see how "baby mother Theresa" would look.
- Reconstructing a known landscape. Landscapes are harder to make it match a known image but the process is similar to face reconstruction.
- Reconstruct images on other image categories: It is possible but harder since the other image categories have no upload option and depend entirely on Edit Genes, Crossbreed and Compose
Images[]
At the bottom of each image you can Like it, add a tag, share it on twitter, see the "parents" of the image and download a high resolution version (even if you don't own it, all images on Artbreeder are either not visible and private or CC licensed). You are limited to 8 free high resolution downloads.
Tokking heads[]
Tokking heads is another site that lets you make little movies with your Portraits, such as this video. It is not available for any other category.
